THREE COUPLES GATHERED to bring in the New Year. Added together, a century or so of life experience lay in their wake. Dinner was potluck; nothing was planned in advance. They came after evening chores with boxes and baskets of goodness. One is famousat the farmers' market for his salads, which fairly dance off the plate with vitality and life forces. The wonderful mix is full of lettuce and dark nutritious leaves of all varieties, including small, round, dark-green leaves, the meristems of pea vines, and all splashed through with the sun-yellow gold of calendula petals.
