The first annual All-American Beef Derby, sponsored by the ACA and in cooperation with Decatur County Feed Yard, is set to begin this fall. Steers and heifers born in 2005 sired by ACA registered bulls will be delivered to central gathering points within each region. The ACA will arrange the transportation to Decatur County Feedyard in Oberlin, Kan. Grade and yield data will be combined with gain and feed efficiency and emphasis on overall profitability to determine winners. Winners will receive cashawards from the ACA. The ACA will receive 10% of the sale gross from the sale of each carcass and this money will be used to cover prizes and awards along with delivery expenses and promotions of this event. The actual amounts for awards will be determined once all cattle are sold.
