There's a lot of talk about the NAIS. For the past couple of years some people (especially in federal and state agencies, land grant university programs and a few cattle industry groups) have been pushing for all cattle owners to voluntarily registerpremises and animals before the government makes it mandatory. Other people (especially small farmers, family farms and ranches, and horse owners) are skeptical or concerned about the plan and don't want to become involved. If it does become mandatory, they worry about the impact it will have on how they manage their animals, and the extra work, cost and red tape it will involve.
