摘要

In this paper is intended to examine themicrostructural changes associated to the sequence of reaction inthe formation of the zircon-vanadium blue pigment, prepared frommixtures of previosly obtained ZrO_2 and V_2O_5 colloidal solsand tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). The reaction sequencefollowed by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), revealed the formation of acrystalline phase with the structure of tetragonal zirconia at thefirst step. The tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation tookplace before the formation of the V~(4+)-ZrSiO_4 solid solution.The microstructures were observed by field emision scanningelectron microscopy (FE-SFM) and energy dispersive X-rayanalysis (FDX). The formation of aggregates of tetragonal ZrO_2particles which were dispersed in an amorphous matrix of silicawas firstly observed. The mechanism of zircon formation involvedthe reaction of amorphous silica with the zirconia particlespreviously transformed to the monoclinic form. The developedfinal microstructure of zircon phases consisted of well formedspherical aggegates up to 3 #mu#m in diameter.
