I have noticed that remuneration for chemists, as shown in surveys and position descriptions - particularly those related to research - does not openly include 'danger money' to make doing a dirty or dangerous job more attractive. It seems to me the reward for risky research is generally the academic kudos - having handled a particularly dangerous chemical and survived is another feather in the cap. In the corporate world, perhaps no one really cares because scientists are misunderstood within a company structure at the best of times.
