摘要

The relevance of the interaction between coagulation and inflammation as a response to infections is becoming increasingly clear [1,2]. Thus, it is of particular interest to see that platelets, which are mainly associated with coagulation, express Toll-like receptors (TLRs), which are recognized to be associated with professional host defense against microbial invasion. TLRs belong to a family of receptors that recognize pathogen-associated molecular pattern recognition molecules. TLRs play a crucial role in innate immune response as the first defense system against microbial infection. The interaction of TLRs with microbial products leads to activation of multiple intracellular signaling pathways.
