The wire and cable polymer materials market for extrudable cable compounds is complex and it is this very complexity that is one of the main challenges for the industry.Many different types of polymers are used as insulation, semi conductive and jacketing materials but polyolefins and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) make up the majority of the market, according to Townsend Solutions. They added that the remaining polymers are predominately engineering resins, with nylon (polyamides) and PET used as leading engineering resins. Specialty polymers like flourpolymers, make up a small section of the market. (see chart 1 on this page and table 2 on page 57).
