Optimization of a Truss Structure Using FEA and Surface Response Method

摘要

The presented study discusses a strategy for the design and optimization of a truss type structure that can be used for helicopter and airplanes fuselage design. The optimization does not consider the aerodynamic performances. The methodology involves extensive usage of FEA simulation and response modeling using ANSYS's structural module and Microsoft's Excel plugin. Starting with the 2D models, the procedure is explained with steps involved and 3D structures is then discussed in the later sections. Using the optimization technique used a rough dimension based on the visual inspection can be optimized to the required dimensions for the operating conditions need. For the demonstration purpose we have used square hollow beams but the method is applicable to other cross section such as the circular and rectangular. The operating condition can be oblique collision with the ground and compression/ tensile loads due to its own weight plus the payload weight.
