It is no coincidence that isocyanates do not present a good picture to the public. The highly reactive compounds can damage human cell membranes and cause irritation. Allergic reactions are also pos- . sible and are caused, for example, by TDI and MDI. Current figures assume that about 6,500 people in Europe suffer from asthma every year as a result of contact with isocyanates.
