The European Commission adopted an ambitious Circular Economy Package in 2015 to boost global competitiveness, create jobs and generate sustainable growth. The Package will contribute to "closing the loop" of product lifecy-cles through greater recycling and re-use, and bring benefits for the environment, society and the economy. The plans will extract the maximum value and use from all raw materials, products and waste, fostering energy savings, materials efficiency and reducing Green House Gas emissions. In January 2018, it adopted a set of measures that included: 1.A Europe-wide "EU Strategy for Plastics in the Circular Economy" and annex to transform the way plastics and plastics products are designed, produced, used and recycled. 2.A communication on options to address the interface between chemical, product and waste legislation that assesses how the rules on waste, products and chemicals relate to each other. 3.A monitoring framework on progress towards a circular economy at EU and national level. The framework comprises a set often key indicators which cover the various phases such as production, consumption, waste management and secondary raw materials, economic aspects such as investments and jobs, and innovation. 4.A report on "Critical Raw Materials and the Circular Economy" that highlights the potential to make the use of 27 critical materials in our economy more circular.
