The provisions of Part 4, Chapter 7 apply to all self-propelled ocean-going cargo vessels of 500 gross tonnage and above.Attention is directed to the appropriate governmental authority in each case, as there may be additional requirements, depending on the size, type and intended service of the vessels. Consideration will be given to fire-extinguishing systems that comply with the published requirements of the governmental authority of the country whose flag the vessel is entitled to fly as an alternative or addition to the requirements of this section.
