The past year has seen a complete turnaround in the credit trajectoriesof the biggest mining companies globally. As many commodityprices have rebounded, the benefits of years of cost and especiallycapital expenditure (capex) cuts have turned many companies intocash machines. In combination with debt reduction measures fromdisposals, dividend cuts, equity raises, and free cash flow, financialpolicy is now a matter of choice rather than defensive necessity.
