EU wheat yields and planting areas are set to grow by a maximum of 4% in the next ten years, with the bloc's supply response "less dynamic" than that of global competitors, says the European Commission. Cereal prices in the EU will remain volatile butshould be lower than the current levels by the start of the next decade despite markets remaining tight, according to a preview of new forecasts by the Commission's agriculture unit (DG Agri). Meat production should 'recover' in the coming years - notably that of beef and pigmeat - while EU dairy exports will be boosted by increasing global demand, predicts the EU executive.
