The rich mineral wealth of the African continent has been known for centuries with gold, copper and iron mining and metallurgy having been developed in Egypt in the second and third Millenia BCE. The continent now boasts significant resources of every important mineral commodity known to mankind and deposits are still being discovered as exploration continues unabated. The continent is one of the world's last frontiers of untapped minerals and many exploration and mining opportunities still exist.
