Annual statistics published in May by the POWERful Women initiative have highlighted’pockets of success’but overall’slow progress’at board level in the UK's top 80 energy companies.Women still occupy only 16% of board seats(up from 13% in 2018)and only 6% of executive board seats(no improvement from last year).Some 42% of companies still have no women on their boards at all,compared to 50% last year.Unveiling the new data at the POWERful Women annual conference in London,chair Ruth Cairnie commented:’It is clear that we still have a very long way to go to truly tap into the pool of female talent available in the energy sector so that it is fit to meet the challenges and opportunities of the energy transformation.The 2019 statistics show that progress is disappointingly slow.’
