Carpal tunnel syndrome is sometimes caused by a drug. As of 2019, the drugs known to expose patients to this syndrome are mainly antioestro-gens of the aromatase inhibitor class, bisphospho-nates used in osteoporosis, and oral anticoagulants. 3 When a drug is involved or suspected to be involved in carpal tunnel syndrome, one of the therapeutic options to consider is withdrawal of the drug, because this is often followed by symptomatic improvement. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the name given to a group of sensory, and sometimes motor, disorders caused by compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel at the wrist, between the bones and the transverse carpal ligament. It manifests as pain, tingling or numbness along the sensory distribution of the median nerve, i.e. the first three digits and the lateral side of the fourth digit. In some patients, these symptoms extend to the entire hand, or sometimes radiate to the forearm or even as far as the shoulder. Carpal tunnel syndrome is common in adults (1,2).
