The agriculture and mining industries are leading the way in the introduction and development of autonomous vehicles in the commercial sphere. Manufacturers and tech companies are pushing the capabilities of such equipment in the face of multiple technical challenges. Although self-driving cars seem to have monopolised mainstream media coverage of ground-vehicle automation, the sector is far broader than that. Indeed, it can be argued that, aside from military applications, it is in the arena of UGVs where autonomy is having its biggest impact.
