The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program's (AANPCP) vision of adhering to and upholding the highest standards for certification of nurse practitioners (NPs) demands that we continually monitor and improve our certification program. As NPs we assess, diagnose, develop, and implement a plan of care, and then evaluate and follow-up. The same can be said of what we do at AANPCP. We assess each candidate's qualifications and eligibility to sit for the national certification examination, assess whether a Certificant has met the current requirements for recertification, develop and validate test questions, plan for next year's examinations, and evaluate our activities for annual reports to maintain our accreditation. After a recent review of our program, we determined the need to implement two major changes that involve updates to the requirements for re-certification and retirement of the Adult NP Certification Examination.
