Hand-weeding is a labor-intensive process and can account for the majority of expenses involved in long-term maintenance of ornamental landscape beds. Many tools, such as mulches, landscape fabrics and herbicides, can be utilized to greatly reduce labor inputs for weed control. The development of a weed management program prior to planting, followed by implementation of that plan following planting, can go a long way to help minimize labor expenses.
