A detailed description of the plant communities of the shortgrass stony steppes of the North Minusinsk Basin, Russia is given for the first time. The short grass stony steppes are described as an independent association within the system of ecological-floristic classification. The association Androsaco dasyphyllae-Caricetum pediformis ass. nov. is subdivided into two subassociations, caricetosum humilis and helictotrichetosum.
