It is known that dendrite arm spacing (DAS) andmechanical strength of aluminum alloy castings are stronglyaffected by the coagulation cooling rate and shape of the casting. Inthis investigation, AC4B square column castings with differentthicknesses and masses were tested in order to determine the masseffect on DAS and mechanical strength. In addition, since alu-minum alloy castings are often treated with T6 to strengthen thematerial, both T6-Treated and untreated castings were tested withregard to DAS and mechanical strength. It was found that theseparameters were proportional to the nth power of the castingmodulus (V/S)n, and the exponent was determined.
