High efficiency in a 3-wheeled batteryforklift truck was studied. The new, egg-shaped 3-wheeled battery forklift features power (gradability19% loaded) and speed-l4km/h loaded-with no extraenergy consumption. To achieve thesefeatures, energy consumption was studied and tractionfound to be the main factor, occupying 750/;. Aseparately excited motor was used instead of serieswinding. Individual control was used for armature andfield currents to achieve a high-efficiency drive. A trench IGBT module made the chopperquiet and effective. Low viscous coefficient oilapplied to the drive train reduced viscous frictionloss. These features will be applied to other forklifts.
