摘要

Decomposed granite, a kind of residual soil, exists as many types and in various forms ranging from the type similar to rock to weathered products such as clay. From the viewpoints of geotechnical hazard in a decomposed granite zone and handling of decomposed granite soil as construction materials, it is considered indispensable to develop the index that properly indicates the degree of weathering. In this paper, on the basis of the past investigation on decomposed granite soil conducted at the geotechnical laboratory of Ritsumeikan University; a new proposal on weathering index was presented based on an original viewpoint. In addition; specific examinations on whether this index was effective or not in actual cases were carried out based on a number of soil test data. The results show that the proposed index has a close correlation with mechanical properties such as strength, compressibility, and permeability, and can be simply and conveniently applied to engineering judgment.
