Even before the super-charged modern Chinese Industrial Revolution, China accounted for a significant share of mined production. For example, in 1990, a pre-industrial China produced over 8% of mined zinc and around 18% of iron ore output. By 2011, Chinese mined production of these two commodities had grown to over 30% and 40% respectively.
