Swiss-based commodity trader Glencore International has reportedly ended negotiations with Italian officials with regard to the takeover of Alcoa’s Porto Vesme aluminium smelter. Italian officials reportedly rejected the proposal by Glencore to run the smelter with a substantial discount on power prices. AME sees a higher probability of the smelter being permanently shut down by the end of the year.
