Brazil’s apparent demand for aluminium is forecast to fall by 3% in 2016 over 2015, as the Brazil economyremains in recession and struggles with high unemployment, tight credit conditions and austerity measures.High interest rates continue to discourage private sector investment along with the devaluation of the real inrelation to the US dollar, which has only recently started showing improvement. GDP contraction of 3.3% isforecast for Brazil in 2016 before improving to slight growth of 0.5% in 2017. Industrial production is forecast todecline by –8% in 2016, before easing to -0.5% in 2017.
