January 2011 was a peculiar month for aluminium. The average price shot up to 110c/lb from the December monthly average of 106.5c/lb; however inventories rose (particularly at the LME). Fundamental economics suggests that the two factors should move inversely yet over the last month, they have moved in concert, the first time since August 2010.
