For diagnosys of osteoporosis from mandibles, it is necessary to extract and evaluate trabeculae from a lot of panoramic X-ray images. A method of trabeculae extraction using high-quality X-ray images taken by CR (Computed Radiography) has been proposed. However, it is easier to collect panoramic X-ray images than CR images, since panoramic X-ray imaging equipments are much more popular. The quality of panoramic X-ray images is lower than that of CR, and trabeculae and roots of teeth are overlapped in X-ray images of mandibles. We succeeded extracting trabeculae from the overlapped images, and evaluating the structure by converting trabecular images into line segments.
