OMV Petrom, a subsidiary of Austria's OMV, announced on Monday that it was offloading 19 onshore oil fields in Romania as part of an upstream optimization move. Romania-based OMV Petrom said it was selling the fields, which have combined production of some 1,000 boe/d, or less than 1% of the unit's daily output, to Netherlandsbased minnow Mazarine Energy for an undisclosed price. Parent company OMV is cutting capital expenditures due to low oil prices, which have dealt a blow to its earnings (IOD Aug.11'16). The sale of the Romanian fields reflects a "portfolio optimization which allows us to simplify operations and focus on delivering enhanced profitability from the remaining portfolio," OMV Petrom board member Peter Zeilinger said in a statement.
