Protesters have blocked access to a Libyan oil field owned by state joint-venture firm Waha Oil Co. The protest at Waha's Gialo 59 field began on Mar. 11 with vehicles transporting equipment refused entry impacting drilling operations at the field, according to a report by Reuters. Protesters had demanded that drivers at the field should be part of a locally formed transport union. The incident is another example of protests being used as a negotiating tool with Libyan state National Oil Corp. (NOC). The most recent halted gas flows from the Mellitah complex, which operates the Greenstream pipeline transporting gas from Libya to Italy (IOD Mar.12'13).
