London-Russia should be able to maintain its oil output at 10 million-10.5 million b/d in the near term despite constraints such as sanctions, while international companies may find it easier to enter the country’s conventional oil sector in the current environment, a leading analyst has said. James Henderson, senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute For Energy Studies, said that while Russia could sustain conventional production at current levels for a couple of years, the tax regime would hold back more challenging projects and in the long term the dominance of state-controlled companies posed a risk.
