摘要

Nanoparticles are widely investigated as a tool to deliver therapeutic drugs.It was assumed that these nano-sized carriers could circulate around the bloodstream and stay unnoticed by the body's defence mechanisms.But it is now known that most particles are quickly covered with blood proteins,covering the often carefully designed nanoparticle surface.Researchers have so far focused on the thickness of the protein corona and the type of proteins absorbed,as these factors can influence whether the nanoparticle is detected by the immune system.Now a team led by Martina Stenzel at UNSW Sydney has shown that adsorbed proteins can deform nanoparticles(Cao C,Zhang L,Kent B.,Wong S.,Garvey C.J.,Stenzel M.H.Angew.Chem.Int.Ed.2021,60,10 342-9).
