This article reviews principles to consider when setting up a telemedicine (TM) program to rovide care to women in the field of obstetrics and ynecology. There are different types of TM encouners and clinical applications vary widely. The conensus among patients and providers is that TM is onvenient to provide needed subspecialty medical are when it is not available locally. These programs re clinically successful, but economic and cost-effec-iveness data are lacking. Federal reimbursement lolicy is limited for TM. State policy on coverage nd reimbursement varies significantly from state to tate and is the main driver on whether TM programs re successful.
