摘要

It is common to say that the "Space Race" was one of the many arenas for the political struggle between the Russians and the Americans during the Cold War. According to this interpretation, the technoscientific progress that made possible the conquering of outer space was primarily motivated by geopolitical reasons. Still, giving excessive importance to the political aspects could obscure-or even remove-some other cultural factors. Religion is one of these underestimated factors, and bringing up its decisive role in this context is the most critical contribution of Destined for the Stars.
