摘要

The Ninth Conference of the European Society for the History of Science has certainly been different from previous editions. By the beginning of April 2020, the representatives of the local organizing committee in Bologna, the Italian Society for the History of Science (SISS), and the ESHS realized that the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic would have been an obstacle too big to overcome. After passionate discussions, all the parties involved agreed on launching on a challenging and adventurous experiment: organizing the conference online. At that point, no one had a clear idea of the amount of work involved in turning an in-person conference into an online conference, of the response from scholars, of what the number of participants would be, or of the technical difficulties we would face. Nonetheless, the decision was taken.
