In 2000, a group ofyoung, enterprising Waldorf educators working in Jefferson County, Washington, joined forces to bring into existence a shared vision: a Waldorf school on a working Biodynamic farm. The educational values of the farm were envisionedto be more than simply for the enrolled students: the farm would provide educational opportunities in sustainable agriculture and land stewardship for people of all ages outside of the immediate school community.In 2002, a centrally-located, eighty-one-acre abandoned dairy farm came on the market. The original intent of the sale was for housing development, butSunfield managed to raise the necessary funds for the purchase of the land. The money was provided by the PCC Farmland Trust, USDA Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, Jefferson County Conservation Future Fund, and many individual loans and donations.
