To meet its needs to support its growing population, the government of Nigeria has begun to develop the necessary legal framework for the adoption of tunneling and underground space technology in the country. The Guardian reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged his support to develop underground infrastructure by 2050 to meet the demands of the growing cities in Nigeria. Recently, the first international tunneling and underground space conference was held in Lagos where minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, said the Buhari administration understands the reality and the need to encourage Nigerians to embrace the need to develop the underground space, broaden it to combat the challenges and mitigate the impacts of congestion in Nigeria's growing cities.
