Dynamically or centrifugally sealed pumps have been around in industry for more than 100 years. The original design was patented in the early 20th century and, after the patent expired, pump companies all over the world expounded upon this then-novel shaft seal design. The seal has been called various names by various manufacturers over the years (e.g. expeller seal, dynamic seal, centrifugal seal, dry-gland, among others).
