摘要

Two major Russian iron and steel works -- Cherepovets and Novolipetsk -- are set to reach 95% self-sufficiency in power generation by the mid-2020s partly through increased use of their own exhaust gases. By 2025, a third of the electricity produced at the Cherepovets steelworks (CherMK) should be fueled by gases emitted by furnaces. In the same year, 95% of the mill's electricity demand will be covered by its own generation, its parent Russian mining and steel company Severstal said. CherMK, in Russia's northwest, produces 78% of the 5.9 billion kWh of electricity it consumes per year. Around 28% of its in-house generation is fueled by off-gases with natural gas making up the rest. The steelmaker aims to boost its energy selfsufficiency to 95% by 2025, the target it will achieve by installing new power generation facilities. The share of off-gases CherMK will turn into power will grow to 33.9% as a result.
