In England the risk of flooding has increased in recent times causing significant property losses. Flooding has now become most dangerous natural hazard that has to be tackled. The problem is of concern not only for directly impacted people, but also for government and insurance companies. In the case of sudden flood havoc emergency services including army are pressed into rescue operations. However, each flood event is different, making advance preparations difficult. In 2016, the UK government set up the national Flood Resilience Review (NFRR) to gain in-depth knowledge about the drivers of floods and whether available task forces will be adequate for handling the growing flood threats. Floors are usually considered localized problems, however NFRR took a view that floods are a national issue. From historical data on river water flow gauges at different locations, it was determined that floods are more common than expected.
