To improve the knowledge base concerning the evaluation and treatment of nonspecific low back pain in adult patients, the Low Back Pain Work Group of the North American Spine Society's Evidence-Based Guideline Development Committee and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Defense both recently developed evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPG), which serve as an additional resource of updated evidence to the 2017 American College of Physicians CPG. These CPG have been created to aid practitioners in the evaluation and treatment of adult patients with nonspecific low back pain. Patients who have back pain often come into the pharmacy; therefore, community pharmacists should be aware of recent updated evidence in order to effectively counsel on both nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic care.
