BYD Interview: Prominent in the electric vehicle and solar module space, China's BYD is also a battery storage pioneer, pv magazine caught up with the company's Senior Global Sales Director Julia Chen and Alvaro Garcia Martinez MD of SR Energy - an official BYD partner - to discuss its latest high voltage B-Box modular battery. pv magazine: In which markets is BYD expecting strong demand for its new high-voltage B-Box modular battery? Julia Chen: We have seen in Australia there is particular interest growing in the retrofit solar market. Many of the country's forerunner FIT contracts are expiring at the end of this year, and this makes the option of storage more attractive for homeowners. The retrofit potential market is more than 180,000 homes in Australia - which has prompted us to grow our presence there. We conducted the B-Box product launch in February, comprising a package with sun+storage for the residential rooftop market of Australia, and that has been successful. And in Europe, feedback has been very strong following our product launch in the March-April period. We have recognized a great deal of positivity regarding the B-Box's flexibility in particular. People like the fact that the battery can be configured to fit different applications and sizes, including typical residential self-consumption installations to off-grid and three-phase light commercial systems.
