Storage applications: Energy storage is certainly paving the way for new energy business models in Europe. But how does one separate hype from reality in this seemingly endless sea of 'new energy' innovations? Valts Grintals of Delta-ee dips a toe into turbid waters to find out. Having analyzed hundreds of new energy business models, there are six core ways in which new customer propositions are capturing value. Figure 1 (p. 103) introduces these six categories and illustrates the major development pathways that we are seeing as they evolve. If we take a look at this framework in the context of residential energy storage business models that are sweeping across Europe at the moment, we see that bundled energy storage business models are leading to a new market structure and laying the groundwork for 'energy-as-a-service' offerings.
