With its TrinaPro solution launched back in March of this year, and the first project now underway - a 250 MW plant in Shaanxi Province, being developed under China's Top Runner Program - Trina Solar is expanding beyond module supply. pv magazine spoke with Rongfang Yin, Trina Solar's Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, about the solution and the company's plans for further development. Can you talk to me first about the TrinaPro? How would you describe that solution for developers? It started as a concept. Two or three years ago we saw that silicon had room to continue going down [in price] and efficiency can keep rising. But the room is limited - so where can we continue to drive the system values? I think from the operation side, for process integration for example, where we can combine materials together, go to the job site with each component delivered on-time and make operating costs more competitive. From lots of discussion within Trina, we found panel/inverter/tracker an effective combination. Why do we select trackers? Because in trackers we see the future. I think over the past 10 years, trackers have not been as popular. There are lots of reasons for this: In the Chinese market it's cultural reasons, for others I think trackers have been too expensive. But now, you see efficiency has gone higher and higher, so the cost per watt for a tracker has been reduced a lot.
