Small unit tactics are evolving to accommodate the use of UGVs that can be carried and deployed easily should the need arise. These diminutive cousins of larger EOD systems further the doctrine that a well-positioned and utilised unmanned asset keeps operators from danger and provides additional capabilities to the boots on the ground. In the modern pattlespace it is considered vital for a force to be able to maintain rapid operational tempo, in order to avoid being slowed down by an adversary that could otherwise become proactive rather than reactive. However, a high rate of movement places some burdens on the logistics train that supports deployed units, which often have to carry a full spectrum of tools and capabilities to be prepared for any event.
