Although India is attempting to move from foreign imports to locally developed UAVs, stymied indigenous efforts and the country's burgeoning military requirements mean openings for overseas OEMs are far from over. India has a tremendous need for UAVs, whether to monitor large oceanic areas or detect intruders along its remote mountainous borders with Pakistan and China. The country is also fighting a Maoist counterinsurgency and attempting to stifle terrorist activity on its western frontier. Indeed, analysts predict India will require hundreds of UAVs over the next decade.
