摘要

This clinical pilot study assessed time of the procedure, perceived procedural pain, and gel consumption when using a novel gel instillation clamp to facilitate the urethral instillation of gel during change of indwelling urinary catheters. Bladder dysfunction or lower urinary tract symptoms are common disorders, particularly among the older population (Chung et al., 2016; Newman, 2007; Wagner et al., 2016). When behavioral, pharmaceutical, or surgical interventions are not sufficient to achieve acceptable bladder function, urinary catheterization may be appropriate. While the preferred method is intermittent self-catheterization (Bermingham, et al., 2013; Robinson, 2009), when individuals cannot perform this procedure and do not have a significant other able to do it for them, an indwelling urinary catheter is indicated (Wilde et al., 2013).
