Timed to coincide with this year's Four Oaks show, AHDB Horticulture and the Bedding and Pot Plant Centre organised a two-day tour of nurseries in the north-west. The Commercial Greenhouse Grower went along and, in the first of three reports, RichardCrowhurst looks at investments by two growers specialising in pack bedding. It was 1950 when Jack Halman moved the family's market gardening business from Manchester to Parkside Farm in the Cheshire village of Lower Peover near Northwich. In 1972 his son Les took over and began to specialise in the production of garden plants, something which has continued since Stuart Halman finished horticultural college and started working at the nursery in the mid 1990s.
