Piglet vitality at birth is related to some very important parameters, especially during the first three days of life,according to Dr Emma Baxter, a pig specialist at SRUC, Scotland's Rural College.During a Lallemand webinar dedicated to the farrowing process in sows, she highlighted the work done at SRUC to develop a piglet vitality score."We simply score what piglets can do within 15 seconds of birth and that ranges from stillbirth, all the way up to a score of four, where piglets demonstrated good movement, good breathing, and they attempted to stand," she said.
