In recent years, I had the opportunity to catch a glimpse into the parallel universe that is the world of entrepreneurship, and came away with some unexpected realizations not just about the start-up scene but also the value of academic publishing. It began when, out of curiosity, I participated in a seminar course on the topic of translating scientific innovation into the marketplace, which was quite an insightful experience for somebody who had not concerned himself much with the scene before. Until taking the class, I had, for instance, not realized that rarely does one become an entrepreneur after having had a great product idea, but rather one decides to be an entrepreneur first and then proceeds to develop product ideas. In order to make this a (more or less) viable career choice, a systematic process has been established that can be studied and employed repeatedly, supposedly until it eventually yields the desired successful business idea.
